WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO FREEZE MY EGGS?

Here’s the good news: the earlier you freeze your eggs, the better your chance of a successful pregnancy – regardless of when you decide to use the eggs.

• As you get older, your ovaries age and the number of viable eggs you have declines. Yet your uterus remains healthy and capable of supporting a pregnancy until about age 50.
• You lock in your chance of a successful pregnancy in the future at the age your eggs are harvested; so if you freeze your eggs when you’re 30 and use them at 40, your success rate is that of a 30-year old.
• A 30 year old woman has about a 20% chance per month of getting pregnant by IVF, which is about the same as by natural conception.
• The optimum time for egg freezing is between ages 25 and 37; this is when you have the highest ovarian reserve and are most likely to harvest at least 20 mature eggs for freezing.
• Egg freezing after age 37 is still an option, but you might need more than one cycle to retrieve the recommended number of mature eggs.

HOW MANY EGGS SHOULD I FREEZE?

You will want to freeze enough eggs to offer multiple attempts at achieving a pregnancy, and ideally have the option of more than one child. We generally recommend 20 eggs, but the actual number varies, depending on your age and the results of your Ovarian Reserve Test.
